Car bits

As I have mentioned before, I have a classic car.
This means I have to keep a few spares around for sudden unexpected car problems...It seems though that I have secretly been hoarding bits I have previously removed. These are of no good to me, but may be handy for other people.

I have listed the parts that are worth selling on my local car club forum.
the items include:

120mph Smiths Black Speedo (my car will NEVER get near that speed! =p)
Three clock Mounting cage and plastic Binnacle (I have installed a more retro single clock dash)
Three clock Dash + Clocks (Same as above)
52mm Temperature Gauge (I have one built into the single clock)
Little soldering iron set (I have my own better quality one)
Aldon Race Spec Distributor (I have an upgraded version)

If all the above sell for what I have asked that will add around £125!
£125 that was sitting around in my bedroom doing nothing!!! Mental!!

Update:I just checked my Emails and the Distributor has been sold (sending it once a cheque arrives) and the dashboard is taken and is being collected this week!!! =)

Also in the maybe pile I have a classic 1960's metal adjustable cooling fan... because I am going more retro I am holding onto this so when i change my engine I can fit it. However, between now and then I may think it is worth getting rid of.. (Its only worth around £15, but they are hard to come across should I change my mind come new engine time..)

I have managed to get rid of a tub full of rubbishy bits I will never use. Random bolts, rounded screws etc... I was keeping them "just in case" but I realised...My car clearly doesn't need them, she is driving around fine without them...and why would I want to put old rusty bolts back onto her if she does need a replacement soon! I usually end up replacing the removed items with shiny fresh stainless steel items anyway!

Here are a few pictures of some of the items:

This is the questionable Retro Fan.

Also, Yes I am aware it is Wednesday night and that I said I would be doing my paperwork on Wednesday.

The truth is I have been! I am just not finished yet... having to date check everything is really slowing me down...
Expect a full post on that tomorrow with picture of the piles before and after!

Ask the Readers! Episode 1

Because (as I have previously mentioned) I am new to all of this. My last post gave me an idea...

Why don't I every so often, before doing the next BIG task (the crawl space, clothes collection, the paperwork, etc) ask people for tips on that specific task?
That way it should help people in similar situations, while at the same time make me less likely to put the job off because of its size.

So in episode one of Ask the Readers, I plan on tackling my paper piles. These include old pay slips, old phone bills, old bank statements, University notes, business planning course material and other stuff along the same lines..

I will be doing this on Wednesday so would like as many tips as possible! (what is safe to get rid of, etc)

You can put the tips in the comments, and if you include a link to your blog/project site with your comment I will be sure to include the links in the post I make after I have had my battle!

If this goes well it could be a good asset for people new to uncluttering.

So yes, in summary:
I am going to attack my piles and piles of paper  on Wednesdayand would like tips. I cant digitize them for the computer as I have no scanner. and some items in there are probably from back in 1999 or possibly older?

Planning the next hurdles..

Before taking on my clothes I decided I had better make sure I know what I want to achieve for that space afterwards. So after messing about on Sketchup (a free 3d program) I came up with the above.

The wall will be a wooden baton frame sandwiched between two mdf panels. On the bedroom side I am considering adding one of those "floating" shelves to put a few of my retro camera's on, and it can double up as a handle to make it easier to roll out the fake wall.
On the back of the wall will be a clothes rail, and an Ikea unit (attached to the fake wall, also on wheels) or similar for teeshirts/jeans/jumpers, that sort of thing. On top of that unit I will put some see-through containers to chuck my boxers and socks in.
I am also considering having another container for "out of season" stuff, so shorts can go in there during the winter, and gloves and coats and stuff can go in there over the summer. (got this idea from another blog some time ago, if I remember where I will link it here. If it's your blog then link me the article! :) )

People have asked for a photo of the progress, but all I have really been doing is donating the various items (some charity shops seem to not like electricals, others refuse any more 'ornaments' so I have to go between a few...) the only thing I have to show for it is that my donate box is now empty again, as it was in the first video I posted anyway!

Unfortunately the weather in Wales is due to turn rubbish again this week so I wont be able to work on my fake wall. Instead I am going to clean my corner full of car parts (tomorrow, expect an update) to work out what exactly I have there. And then on Wednesday I will begin on the skylight area... I hate paperwork though. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with that?

Sorry Everybody =(

Hi everyone,
Sorry for radio silence but things have been a bit mental.

Had to help out with a car show my friend organised, then I had to start getting ready for a week away around my mates for his birthday. (7hour bus ride each way, eep...)

On the plus side, One of my items has sold on Ebay! =D Will update the running totals page once I am back from my friends next week.
Also have taken all of the charity shop items down to there, and have dumped/recycled all of those items.
Just have to slowly add the remaining ebay items now and I can get to work finding more junk to get rid of.

Next up will be clothes probably because it took me 3hours to shift through my clothes to find some usable clothes that fit me for my week away...

Once again, sorry for the lack of updates, hopefully after this week I can resume the regularly scheduled programing.. =)

Day 3 - What Lives Under The Bed..?

It was finally time to sort out under the bed...

After getting off to a good start with the Drawers I really got stuck into this job, coughing and spluttering and occasionally blinding myself with bits of stirred up dust.

The only thing remaining under my bed are the 4 little storage boxes seen in my video, the box for my digital camera (when I upgrade to a newer body the box will help the price drastically so I'm keeping it, so there =p) and a large fan that I have to use each summer when my room creeps towards the top end of 30 degrees C.
(hopefully putting the fan under there will remind me to vacuum under there more frequently)

The amount of dust and hair under there was amazing.. not the good amazing... the same sort of amazing as seeing the state of a car after a large accident. It's a wonder I literally havn't coughed up a lung what with my Asthma/Allergies!

I think it went well though, I removed a load of things! My 'holding box' is now my 'holding area' because I can not fit anything else into my box!

The only things I am really double thinking are my old game consoles.. My Sega Megadrive and my Super Nintendo  =(
I know its silly to keep them because I am going to replace them with my hacked Xbox, so can still play the same games anyway.. It's just I love retro items... *sniff*.. Then again if they were under my bed with a layer of dust they were hardly being loved by me, better someone get use from them.

Time for the photos to do the talking!

Bin/Recycle
Sell/Give Area!

A  good days work I think! =D

Im going to count the items I am recycling/throwing and update the The Numbers page in a bit, Also going to update it tomorrow when I put the sale items onto Ebay/Forums.

Hope everyone has had an equally productive day!

Day 2 - The Drawers.

Yesterday I was shattered after work so didn't do much. Today however I had the day off, so am making up for it by decluttering two new areas!

First up is the drawers under my desk.

Each one was literally packed with stuff. Most of it was computer related stuff though (seeing as it is next to the computer I saw this as sort of almost acceptable).

Top Drawer
Middle Drawer
Bottom Drawer

So it turns out I have information books for items I have gotten rid of long ago. I also have warranty booklets for my computer (2years out of warranty) and my Ipod (3years out of warranty).
There were also pieces of old University work in there and half a pack of cards!
Here is the resulting 'Bin/recycle' pile:
Stickers, cards, leaflets and paper.
There were also a lot of items I no longer have any need for, so these were added to the holding box for the weekends decisions.
Parts for my old Xbox 360, An old HDD caddy, old hair trimmer which I never used, my favourite book from when I was little, and other cables.
And here is the resulting drawer layout for today. I will probably revisit these later on because I found some parts of other items that I will be getting rid of, but obviously it is best I get rid of these multipart items together.

Top
Middle (Filofax is going in the bin once I shred the important bits)
Bottom (PC backup CDs, and other PC parts)
Does anyone know how to get rid of the yellowing on my TV remote by the way? I tried rubbing it with a bleach wipe but it isn't shifting? I think it may be from being in the sun so much =(...

Hope this update makes up for missing yesterdays one.

Keep your eyes peeled, Day 3 will be going up in a few hours. I am about to starting clearing out under my bed... eep...

21 February 2011

Day 1 - The first victims found.

I went through my bedside cabinet. Found a load of stuff Ive no use for, also found my grandfathers RAF hat pin I thought I had lost, which was nice!

So much random stuff in there.. who would have thought a bedside cabinet would have contained some lip balm that was 5 years out of date, a couple of blown bulbs, old usb cables still in pouches, metal sculptures, wallpaper borders, a microphone and an exploding alien...

Half full box!

Going to donate these to a friend for his birthday party (I'm not a big drinker any more..)

These have no option but the bin

I am tempted to keep the watch for a bit of retro coolness..

The power ball has only been used twice or so...

Cheap Philips Mic bought for a Uni project and then confined to my bedside cabinet and a time programmable plug

So it seems to have gone well today! Tomorrow after work I will start on under by bed! It shouldn't be too bad considering most of the stuff from under there is now in the crawl space but I'll still give it a once over in case! It will be a late update tomorrow though as I dont finish work until 9pm (GMT).
